Small but mighty, Luxembourg City has a wealth of history to uncover. The city’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, boasts beautiful architecture, fascinating museums and historic attractions such as the Abbey of Neumunster and the stunning Cathedrale de Notre Dame. Another must-visit whilst here is the Bock Casemates; a network of ancient underground tunnels initially carved by the Spanish in 1644, which were then used during WW1 and WW2 to shelter locals. Walls of the Corniche
Also known as ‘the most beautiful balcony in Europe’, the spectacular Walls of the Corniche rise above the river valley and offer incredible views. As you stroll along the walls you can view the Grund District below, with its impressive gate and stone buildings.
Old Quarter
Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994, the city’s Old Quarter was once one of Europe’s largest fortresses, and you can still view many gates, forts, bastions and casemates. It’s the perfect area to spend a few hours exploring, with its beautifully landscapes gardens, cobbled streets and historic bridges.
Bock Casemates
An expansive complex of subterranean tunnels, the Bock Casemates are all that remains of Luxembourg's mighty fortifications. Dating back to 1644, they were capable of sheltering thousands of troops, along with weapons, horses and much more. Many of the tunnels can still be explored – perfect for uncovering the fascinating history that surrounds them!
