Food and Drink

Irn-Bru

A true emblem of the country, Irn Bru is more common than Coca-Cola in Scotland! Launched in 1901, there is much debate as to what the combination of 32 ingredients tastes like; bubblegum, orange, cream soda… it’s no wonder the drink has been described as indescribable.

Scottish Shortbread

Buttery, crumbly and melt-in-the-mouth magnificent, Scottish shortbread is a decadent biscuit made with flour, sugar and a generous amount of butter. Wash it down with a cup of tea for a match made in heaven!

Whiskey

With over 130 distilleries dotted throughout Scotland, it’s no surprise that whiskey is one of the country’s greatest exports. Whether you choose peaty, woody, creamy, single-malt or blended triple-malt, you can’t leave Scotland without enjoying a wee dram!

Edinburgh

Edinburgh Highlights

Edinburgh Military Tattoo

Drawing together a host of creative talent from four continents, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo is a 9-minute show of innovative production, heart-stopping sound, imaginative graphics, state-of-the-art lighting and specially commissioned fireworks. As one of the world’s greatest immersive events, this show is not to be missed!

Edinburgh Castle

With former uses as a royal residence, military garrison, prison and fortress, Edinburgh Castle is rich in history. Known as the ‘Defender of the Nation’, this active military base is the most famous of the Scottish castles – you’ll even find the crown jewels and other national treasures on display here.

Royal Mile

The Royal Mile is at the heart of Edinburgh’s old town, with Edinburgh Castle at its head and the Palace of Holyroodhouse at its foot. You’ll find plenty of bars and restaurants here, along with historic sights and attractions including St. Giles’ Cathedral, The Real Mary King’s Close and the Scottish Storytelling Centre.

Highlands

Highlands Highlights

The Cairngorms

From mountains and rivers to castles and distilleries, there’s no shortage of things to see and do in the Cairngorms National Park – it is the UK’s largest National Park after all! Renowned for its spectacular scenery and fascinating history, you’re in for plenty of memorable moments on your visit here.

Loch Ness

Containing more water than all the lakes of England and Wales combined, Loch Ness is world-famous for its dramatic scenery, nearby castles and mysterious monster living in its waters. Uncover over 1,000 years of history at the ruined Urquhart Castle, and be sure to keep your eye out for Nessie!

West Highland Line

As one of the most scenic rail journeys in the world, the West Highland Line is guaranteed to leave a lasting impression. The iconic Jacobite Express – otherwise known as the Hogwarts Express – travels along this line and takes you to the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which was used in the Harry Potter films. Enjoy the rolling views of mountains, lochs and moors and remember your camera!

Glasgow

Glasgow Cathedral

One of Scotland’s most magnificent medieval buildings, Glasgow Cathedral is built on the site where St Kentigern, or Mungo, is thought to have been buried in AD 612. Explore the ancient crypt, see the pulpitum and admire one of the finest post-war collections of stained glass windows in Britain.
