We start by looking at the fighting in the Ardennes area in 1940, seeing the sector held by the British Expeditionary Force along the River Dyle in May 1940, and then visiting the Museum of Remembrance May 1940 where we see a superb private collection relating to the fighting here. In the afternoon, we visit the Leffe Experience at the ‘Maison Leffe’, to discover more about one of Belgium’s most famous Trappist beers. Afterwards, we visit a local Brewery, the Brasserie Caracole. Here we have a tour, see how they brew their beer, and have a sample.

This morning we will visit the RAF graves in the Florennes area, and the Sherman Tank Memorial to the American Liberation of this part of Belgium in 1944, before continuing to the ‘Hitler Bunker’ in the Ardennes Forest, used by Adolf Hitler as a Headquarters during the Battle of France in 1940. It is now a museum site. In the afternoon we visit the Chimay Experience, where we discover how the Belgian monks brew this beer and have a taste ourselves! Later we travel to the Brasserie des Eaux Vives, a local Ardennes brewery and have a tour and tasting session.

Everything worked out just fine. Coaches were comfy, guides were very good and prodigiously knowledgeable. Hotel was very good, if somewhat pricey in the restaurant

Basically it was a good tour that delivered what we expected. Battlefield Guide Ben Mayne was very good However to nit-pick 1. Chimay was not a good place to stop for lunch on the third day. There was a distinct lack of both places to eat and shops to buy snacks. What eateries were open proved to be very slow 2. Maybe did not need to do 2 of the small breweries - one would have been sufficient as they were both effectively the same

The tour guides had a vast knowledge on the history of the wars, battle fields and museums and were happy to answer any extra questions that were put to them. I found the smaller, family run breweries were more hospitable towards visitors. The hotel was ideally situated, the room was a good size and the breakfast had ample choice. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour, my 5th with Leger.

An excellent tour. Well thought out. Ben, our guide, was informative and engaging. Coach drivers were a great team. I’ve given 4 stars because of issues with transfers and transport to and from Dover Stop24 in the UK. Luckily we went via Eurotunnel on the way over and avoided the delays at Dover and ferry back. The hotel was adequate for our stay but seemed short of staff at times. I would definitely recommend this trip.
