Today we cross the border to the French Riviera on our included excursion to Èze and Nice. Our first stop is the medieval village of Èze and the famous Fragonard Perfume Factory where we take a guided tour and discover some of the secrets to perfume making. After the tour we have free time to explore Èze. Perched high above the Mediterranean, the village offers a spectacular view of the surrounding scenery. Narrow streets are filled with quaint craft shops and art galleries, making Èze the perfect place to spend the morning. This afternoon we continue to the fashionable resort of Nice, the largest resort on the Mediterranean coast and the fifth largest city in France. You will have the afternoon free to explore all the city has to offer, including the old town, with its pastel façades and ornate balconies and the flourishing Promenade des Anglais, which with its grand hotels and exclusive boutiques provides a delightful place to relax.

We cross the border back into France on our included excursion to visit St. Paul de Vence. This beautiful fortified medieval village has been, and still is today, home to some very famous painters. Wander around the cobblestone streets, admire the paintings, craft shops and boutiques, and soak up the atmosphere of a village that dates back to the 1500’s. We end the day in Cannes, famed for the International Film Festival, which takes place each May. Its most famous thoroughfare, Boulevard de la Croisette, is lined with hotels, boutiques and gardens on one side and fine coastal beaches on the other.

Today our included excursion takes us to the Principality of Monaco, whose eight square miles form the smallest and almost certainly wealthiest sovereign-state, with possibly more millionaires than anywhere else on earth. There is a fascination with Monaco's ruling Grimaldi family, especially since Prince Rainier III’s marriage to the former film star Grace Kelly. One of the few autocratic Monarchies left in the world, the relationship between Monaco and France is an interesting one. Any new law passed in France is automatically sent to the ruler of the principality. If he likes it, it becomes a law in Monaco. If not, it doesn't! Spend time in the most famous region of Monaco: Monte Carlo. Rub shoulders with the rich and famous, or if you feel lucky, take your chances in the famous Grand Casino where the lavish interiors are still decorated in the Belle Époque style.

Good itinerary, hotel and staff good but hotel a little dated. Coach/Drivers excellent but 2x15 hour travelling days too long. Overall good value for money, singles tour group was an interesting mix and worked very well. Overall I will not go on this length of coach travel again because a significant number of travellers needed to have a rest day after reaching the hotel. I missed the excursion to Nice because of travel lag. Good idea but needs a little tweaking.

Over rated although a lot to see in a short space of time.

The hotel was clean and the staff helpful but the decor was outdated with shabby furnishings. I felt like we'd landed in the 1970s. It was listed as a three-star (see photo of sign) but I can only think that Italy must have different grading standards to the U.K. The shower was very small and plasticky. There was harsh fluorescent lighting in the dining room and the reception area really needed to be redesigned. The overnight hotel on the way down was comfortable and modern, which made our main hotel seem even more of a letdown. But on the way back we were booked into what looked like a migrants' hostel complete with linoleum floors . (See photos 2 and 3.) The day trips were very enjoyable and well-organised. We had two good drivers. I know they're not tour guides but they had to be cajoled into actually sharing facts and information about the places we visited. This was my third Leger coach holiday. The first two were historical trips with an excellent, knowledgeable guide. The hotels were very good, and all of a higher standard than our main hotel on this trip. I'd be reluctant to take another non-historical Leger trip without knowing about and seeing more photos of the primary stay hotel.

Too early starts for older travelers. People should be made aware of being picked up in the early hours of the morning when they book.
