This morning we travel to the pretty village of Giverny to visit the home of Claude Monet. The artist lived here from 1883 until his death in 1926, and today his house, and in particular, the gardens – made famous by his painting of the water lilies – have been restored to Monet’s original designs. The gardens, stretching from his house down to the river, provided the inspiration for many of his works, such as the series of ‘Nympheas’ or Water Lilies, and his ‘Pont Japonais’ or Japanese Bridge, which has also been rebuilt for visitors to enjoy.
We then continue to the historic town of Rouen. Picturesquely set on the banks of the River Seine, you will have time at leisure to stroll through this delightful Normandy town. Explore the half-timbered houses of the beautiful medieval quarter and see the magnificent Notre Dame Cathedral.

I took this holiday with my Mum and we were disappointed because despite knowing that my Mum required a walking aid no one mentioned that this break was probably unsuitable for the following reasons. Firstly the cobbles at the entrance to Versailles were a nightmare for someone with a rollator. Secondly Monet’s garden was also a disappointment as we were unable to view the house due to the steps in and staircases within the property. Then finally we ended up having take aways and using Uber eats for our main meals as the hotels was too far from Rouen city centre to use the restaurants available and the hotel was unable to provide us dinner.

Taxi arrived late so missed my connection. Had to be driven to Dover. Hotel was ok but no evening meals. That was not good having to find a restaurant in a place you have never been to before. In the shower there was no grab rails which was scary. The trip was full on but very tiring and exhausting. Versailles was wonderful as was Monets Garden. The drivers were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble.

The journey there was long and the one thing that made it more difficult was changing coaches at Dover. The drivers were very good. The hotel was adequate. Rouen was a good place to stay. The trips were excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed Versailles and Monets House and gardens. It was worth the discomfort of the long journey for the wonderful 2 days in France.
