Itinerary

Local departure by coach or Door-to-Door service, then travel overnight to Italy.

Afternoon arrival in Fiuggi, near Rome, for a four-night stay.

Today you can join our fantastic included excursion, first to the monastery of Montecassino, founded by St. Benedict around 529. It was destroyed during World War 2, but today has been re-constructed as a replica of its seventeenth century predecessor.

We continue to Pompeii, engulfed during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD, where the inhabitants of this small town were literally frozen in time. To make the most of your visit why not join our optional guided walking tour?

In 79AD the eruption of Mount Vesuvius buried the town of Pompeii in about 6/7 metres of stones and ash. Painstaking excavations, which are still ongoing, began in the 18th century and have uncovered a remarkable hidden city.

Accompany your expert guide around the town, walking along roads with indents from the passing of chariot wheels and discovering the remains of homes, shops and public baths. With a little imagination and the explanations of your guide, it is not hard to get a picture of life in the town all those years ago. An experience not to be missed! (Entrance into the ruins is included in the price of the walking tour).

Alternatively you can explore the excavations at your own pace (entrance at additional cost).

Another chance to visit Rome today on our included excursion. Perhaps spend the time discovering the smallest independent state in existence, the Vatican City. The Vatican sits atop the low-lying Vatican hill just a few hundred metres west of the River Tiber. As an independent state, it has its own postal service, newspaper, radio station and army.

See St. Peter’s Square, considered by many to be a masterpiece. The immense square was commissioned as a place for all the Christians of the world to gather, and is the site where some of the most important papal ceremonies take place.

A visit to the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel is highly recommended and extremely popular, and must be booked in advance. The cost is from £65 per person. Please ask for details when booking this holiday.

We journey through the scenic countryside on our optional excursion, to the town of Frascati, located to the south east of Rome. It is a small, relaxed town with a slower pace of life, cleaner air and a far more casual feel than the nearby capital. Frascati is famous for its villas, in particular Villa Aldobrandini, which dominates the town. Frascati is also famous for its production of white wine. Whilst here, we include a short visit to a pergolato, where you can sample some of the local produce including snacks of porchetta, cheese, olives and wine.

There will be free time to explore the town at your leisure before we continue towards Castel Gandolfo, on the shores of Lake Albano and home to the Pope’s summer residence. Most of the town is part of the independent papal state of the Vatican City, and when in residence the Pope addresses the crowd from the balcony of the palace. (Please note: entrance into the Pope’s summer residence is prohibited).

2025 is a very exciting and busy year for Rome due to the Pope’s Jubilee – this is something that happens every 25 years.

Across the year there is a calendar of special events specifically in and around the Vatican city and processions through the city which will generate more tourists visiting Rome.

For your holiday, our aim is to ensure our customers will get the best experience of Rome during this period.

The final itinerary and excursion content will be confirmed on your travel documents a couple of weeks prior to departure.

Thereafter there is still a possibility the excursion days may be swapped around on-tour and hence it is recommended not to pre-book any local attractions.

Accommodation

You will stay for four or six nights in Fiuggi, a delightful spa-town south of Rome, at a 3-star hotel such as the Hotel Dei Pini or Hotel Verdi.

I would have given more stars as the holiday was lovely but the hotel Verdi in fiuggi let it down. When we arrived the air con was off in our room it was 87 plus degrees outside everyday we were there when we asked where the control was we were informed we had to pay 8 euros a day or an offer of 20 euros for 3 days in cash before they gave us the controller they would not take a card. Considering it was like a furnace in the rooms all of us in the coach paid up one couple tried to sleep without it but gave up the next day and paid up. Also the included breakfast was very poor and consisted of cereal in plastic bowls not china some brown bread or brioche no toaster for bread some tinned fruit and a small amount of fresh fruit and butter and jam. In Como last year we had eggs and a lovely selection of breakfast products. The hotel was very basic and only took cash in the bar as well.

I have written to you, you are not ensuring that the traveller has all the comfort and information necessary. I will not join you on another holiday, you are not professional enough! My experience with you has made me think that I don't want another coach holiday.
